LI 11 This point is found at the lateral end of the elbow crease with the elbow flexed. Having identified the point, place the foot on the ground before insertion, which is up to 2.5 cm, perpendicularly, at right angles to the long axis of the dog, and so that the needle is placed to lie in front of the joint.
My Graphic
In practice, you raise the front leg to attain full flexion of the elbow.
Then noting where the point is located, at the lateral end of the crease, one allows the foot to be replaced on the ground before inserting the needle. It is inserted at right angles to the long axis of the dog, parallel to the ground, and may be inserted up to 2cm deep. Properly placed the shaft of the needle lies in front of the joint capsule and does not interfere with subsequent raising and lowering of the leg.
